Top 5 new health and wellness trends to try

New health trends and exercise programs can lead to longer, more productive lives.

“Health is wealth,” the saying goes, but many people often overlook this gem of a concept because of many factors. For one, on top of the demands of a busy lifestyle, workout routines and healthy regimens become boring and uninteresting after a while – or simply get too hard to stick to.

You can get back on track towards wellness by trying out new health routines and practices. AXA Philippines, one of the country’s leading insurers, shares these new wellness trends to revive your interest in a healthier lifestyle:

Online workout subscriptions. If you cannot go to the gym, a few clicks on your computer can lead you to online fitness programs that will help you get fit in the comfort of your own home. One of various exercise routines offered by workout websites may suit your needs and budget. Subscriptions cost only about ₱500 to ₱1,000 per month.

Sound bath. Despite its name, sound baths do not involve water and soap. It is an alternative healing practice that uses sounds and sonic waves to calm the body and mind. As you lie on your back and close your eyes, sound bath healers will produce relaxing music using Himalayan singing bowls, crystal bowls, gongs, chimes, Biosonic tuning forks, shamanic drumming, and other percussion instruments. People now use this auditory approach for deep relaxation and meditation, as the sounds slowly allow them to relax fully and explore the inner self.

Sleep technologies. It is recommended that adults aged 18 to 64 should get seven to nine hours of sleep per day. Not getting enough sleep can weaken the immune system, affect bodily functions, and even increase the risk of future respiratory diseases and cardio-cerebral vascular illnesses. Several companies have developed state-of-the-art devices that can enhance natural sleep and ultimately improve a person's lifestyle: wristbands and smartwatches, temperature regulators, bedside monitors, and smart beds and mattresses to help you get a good night’s rest.

Digital detox. Technology has caused unnecessary stress and emotional strain to many so a growing number of people are trying to “disconnect to reconnect.” Digital detoxification can effectively reduce stress, improve emotional state, increase work productivity and boost social interaction. You will be surprised at how logging off from social media and limiting use of electronic devices can improve your physical and mental wellness.

Intuitive eating. This is perfect for those who find it difficult to follow a strict diet. This no-diet approach is all about eating when you are hungry and stopping when you are full. Intuitive eating encourages people to have a healthy attitude toward food and body image, and to honor their hunger by finding ways to satisfy it in a healthy way. It also helps people cope with stress and other extreme emotions without using food as a coping mechanism. Intuitive eating does not only focus on losing weight, but highlights the need to feel energized, strong and alive.

As poor health choices can lead to critical illnesses that can affect anyone at any age, it is important to protect yourself from the financial repercussions of getting sick. AXA Philippines has several health plans that suit your need and budget, no matter what life stage you are in. For more information, visit www.axa.com.ph.

Reliv Family Story

Reliv Family Story of Sammy and Dorothy Tan (Presidential Director & Bronze Ambassador)

Our pediatrician called us at home and ask if we change doctors? I said "no, we haven't, why?" "It's because you haven't visited the clinic for some time!" That was when you realized the health impact Reliv had in our family's life. I have been relieved of my allergic rhinitis as well as my two boy's allergy and asthma. Joshua had 3rd occurrence of Primary Complex and taking Reliv nutrition improved his condition. We have so much to thank God for. My wife's constipation issues was addressed and she lost her pregnancy-related fats in 5 weeks when she was trying to lose them for two years. Having had miscarriage twice, she opted to use Reliv nutrition as her prenatal support nutrition with her OB-Gyne's approval. Rachelle, our Reliv baby was born with an Apgar score of 9.9. Now ten years old she is hardly sick. Our 2nd son's ADHD and dyslexia was eventually corrected without the need for therapy. Reliv has saved us from unnecessary trip to the doctor and no more antibiotic treatments when before Reliv it was a usual routine. We shared what these products has done for us and decided to help others who may be in the same situation. Though we initially sign up to avail of maximum discount, we were glad Reliv offers a home-based opportunity that eventually replace our full time income and allowed us to be home for our kids. We were able to take control of our health as well as our finances because of Reliv.

Food Trip: Homemade Carrot Siomai + Carrot Juice

What I missed most about staying in Baguio was that all the vegetables are fresh, plus the price is way much cheaper than the limp veggies I see on the wet market here in Manila - there really IS a big difference! If you wanna live well, you have to start eating right, and eating right starts with fruits and vegetables - the usual left behind food blocks in the food pyramid! Today, in this blogpost, I will share to you my mom's homemade carrot siomai! :D

Ingredients and Materials for Carrot Siomai, Carrot Juice and Siomai Sauce:
  • 1 kilo fresh carrots
  • 2 cans of tuna in oil flakes or corned tuna
  • siomai wrappers
  • salt
  • pepper
  • stalk of celery
  • flour
  • 5 medium-sized eggs
  • Juicer
  • Steamer
  • 5 pieces calamansi
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • a spoonful of chili sauce
  • Olive oil
fresh from the steam pot! :D

Clean the celery and carrots and lightly peel the surface. Cut the carrots in medium size and process both the carrots and the celery stalks in the juicer. Measure 1/4 of the carrot-celery juice on the cup and put the rest in the fridge to chill.
Put the carrot fiber in a big bowl, add the following ingredients-
1/4 carrot juice,
tuna in flakes,
a spoon of flour (add more if necessary),
salt and pepper to taste
Crack the eggs in a small bowl, leave a spoonful of egg whites in a saucer.
Beat the eggs and mix it to the ingredients. Mix well.
Prepare the siomai wrapper.
Individually wrap the mix in the siomai wrapper and use the white eggs to seal the tip.
Cover the steam pot with a thin layer of olive oil (you could also add/use butter, if you like *wink).
Place the siomai inside and steam for 15 to 20  minutes.
Cut the calamansi and squeexe the juice in a small bowl, add soy sauce and chili sauce.

Enjoy!

That is how we do it at home. Don't forget to put some ice on the Carrot Juice and shake it well before serving. Carrot is a good source of vitamin A. It can also melt small tumors and lumps inside the body. You can replace the tuna with grinned beef or chicken as well, but our favorite is the tuna flavored carrot siomai! Mouth-watering labor of love! All those wrapping is really well worth it!

What are your favorite carrot dish and dimsum?

Skincare General Rules

I don't have the perfect skin, (not the worst either) and I encounter several problems but of course, all these have simple solutions and preventions. This post summarizes the general rules when it comes to skincare (and overall health). Some rules usually takes a lot of discipline and practice but the results are oh-so-worth-it! Read on!
The Don't's
*don't squeeze that juicy zit! - its nasty and unhygienic! Popping pimples not only stress out the skin's delicate follicles but also spread the bacteria into the deeper layer causing more breakouts, swelling, more redness, infection, irritation and at the long run larger pores. So better keep your hands off your face! (I used to be a culprit on this but glad to say I'm hands-free since learning this, unless I'm asleep...)
* it's a crime to be a night owl! - if you're an early to bed early to rise morning lark, congratulations! But if you lurk at night seeking opportunities (lol) like a night owl that I am- welcome to the cult of big fluffy eye bags, red shot eyes and overall dull skin! The thing is, the body needs to rest at night, to repair damaged cells, to keep skin fresh and healthy. The body self detoxify at night. So if can't getaway with night outs or night shifts for that matter, be sure to let your body rest at least 6hours a day. 10 to 15minutes power naps makes a big difference too - its like a quickie charge! ;)
*do not mix and just match - you could if we're talking about fashionable clothes, but since this is all about skincare, lets stay away from mixing and concentrate on matching. Although a product is best used with its partner brand, let's be real here and forgive ourselves by not buying the entire skincare line. Your favorite toner brand is different from your favorite moisturizer. Okay the thing is, its okay, deal with it but remember this - know your skin type, if your oily like me, do check the label if its for oily skin. Do not ever do with a toner for oily skin then a moisturizer emollient for super dry skin. The products will fight not the enemy of your skin, but each other! That's a bit dramatic, but you got me right? :)
I wish I was this flawless! No pores!
Or this smooth!
The Do's
*favorite drink: colorless tasteless ice-cold water - it's a thirst quencher, body replenisher and the best part is, its cheap, organic and natural! You are 70% water darling! ;)
Why cold? It burns calories. Hitting two birdies in one ice-cold rock! Squeeze out some lemon on to your water to add a hint of citrus - it burns calories too.
*the usual tips of eating healthy and working out - eat fresh fruits and vegetables, if its says it's a corn and it doesn't look like a corn anymore then you know it undergo a lot of food processes - preservatives and cancer-causing chemicals are lurking around that juicy piece of junk #truthhurtsalot! Skip it.
If you're not in a hurry skip the elevator, skip the escalator, take the stairs. Commute if safe and possible. Walk. Run.
My no-makeup makeup face :)
full makeup face :)
These tips are easier said than done. I have to focus on losing weight as well, it is hard and I'm under the impression that "no-pain-no-gain" is freaking unbearable!
Discipline is one key, attitude is another. You will walk, run, stumble and fall. And you know what, Its okay. Just put yourself together and rise. :) rise, try again and live life. Besides, #YOLO! Why be unhealthy, right?

Empties July 2013

Fast forward June, now here comes the end of July and the end of some of my products - empty stashes of products that is. What I like most about posting Empties is that I could sum up what I think about certain items after fully using it - its like a review in a way but not really. Anywho, here's the batch for this month!

4Life Transfer Factor Riovida!

If you remember my post about the things I'm grateful for - the blessings I received - things I deemed thankful for, then you'll know how my heart surgery extended my life...

s

I never thought I would live the day and tell the tale on how my family and I surpass the ordeal! Well, one of the reason behind this success was my ever supporting family and loving friends, who kept my spirit strong and confidence high.

And also,
1734Life Transfer Factor Riovida Tri-Factor Formula

RioVida is only Php5,040.00 for two bottles of 16.9oz each.

174

This magic bottle contains acai berry, pomegranate, elderberry, blueberries, purple grapes and apples with a total organic value of 27,864! It was even featured on Oprah Show, NC Today Show and Wall Street Journal! Why?

175

This yummy "juice" is an all good antioxidant potion that helps fight chronic diseases and immune system challenges. Using this juice as a daily maintenance will protect you and your family from cancer, heart disease, stroke, alzheimer's disease and diabetes!

As you can see on my photo above, I was cut on my upper left back so it is hard for me to move from side to side, get up and lean on my left. I was under surgery at around 7am until 1pm and spend the rest of the day on the ICU, got back on my room at around 6 in the evening and would you believe me if I tell you, the next day, I was up, can walk slowly and rather seat on the coach than lay in bed? :)

My appetite is not that good though, my dad bought anything to trigger my hungry stomach, he bought pizza, siomai, soups even sushi! :P hehehe but the important thing is, I recover fast! My secret? (I've been telling you this all through out this post!) Yes, it's the RioVida! :)

So start your year right! It's not yet too late! Give Riovida a try! ;)

xoxo,
Gerilen Elinessete

Short time: Whole Latte Happier

When it rains, people tends to go sad in a way to fit the loomy weather, dark crying clouds and moaning thunderstorm...

(while preparing myself for a meeting)

if you wanna skip the drama, well, there's a reason not to kick the coffee habit in your new years resolution because a recent research study shows that caffeinated drinks may help keep the blues at bay over the long run most specifically for women.

So instead of skipping the hot cup, make it two this year and reduce the risk of having depression in 10 years!

Superfoods and Your Health! :)

Saw these posts on a social networking site and I just felt that I had to share them up!
I'll definitely add lemon water on my diet since it's in! Avocado is one of my favorite fruit and we drink coconut every now and then. I just have to give way and work something out for the ginger cause I'm not fond of chewing it though my dad loves to make it as a candy although soups are good with ginger on it. :)
Do you have any other superfood you wanna share?
and what are your ginger recipe? Please share them up! :P
