Tips for Parents Hiring a Nanny

In our fast-paced lifestyle, whether you are a freelancer, business owner or in a corporate world, some parents really need extra hands to keep things in order and on this case, to keep the children safe and well taken care of, so that you could do more of the stuff that would bring money in the house, or you could finally slip in to your PJs and snooze away that extra sleep you are daydreaming about the entire week.
Whatever reasons you have, looking for a set of extra hands is quite unnerving specially when it comes to finding the right person for the children. The mere thought of leaving your family to a virtual stranger can be very daunting and overwhelming and yes, finding a nanny is like finding a Significant Other – it will take time, effort and a lot of dating (if you consider interviews as such) and you’ll know you have finally found the one and hopefully your forever when your hearts beat as one, in this case, her perspective to what is to happen (including the arrangements or the process of how things will go) is aligned to yours. Relax, take a deep breath and learn the basics when interviewing a potential nanny for your home.
Break the Ice. Tell her about your family. Who she will be taking care of. How you what to get things done. The everyday must-do and the no-nos. Personally, it is to your advantage to make them feel like they are family members too. Your trust to the nanny and her (nanny’s) real personal interest to the children will sprout from this.
Ask about her background. Aside from valid IDs, Police Clearance and Birth Certificate, and other significant official documents, you also need to learn about her background – her family, her educational attainment and religious belief. This way you could assess whether your family values will fit with her smoothly.
The Payroll. No matter how you want to pay your nanny, you have to let her know right away. You should also consider whether or not you will provide her necessities like food, cable, internet connection, phone and other utilities and personal hygiene products. Be clear if it’s ok or not with you to have her visitors visit and stay overnight. Will you provide her a separate space, will you let her use your appliances like washing machine, iron, refrigerator, pool, and bathtub? Do you have house curfew and also, don’t forget to talk about her benefits including her day offs, whether she wants to have one flexible day or fixed? Also discuss the limits of cash advances.
Stay Safe. Trusting someone is a huge sacrifice and being trusted is a great responsibility. But just to make sure, you have to secure your children’s safety. If possible, install a CCTV camera on your home. To tell the nanny about it is up to you of course, but knowing that she can be seen always will make a huge difference. Can’t afford? If your children are big enough to understand, talk to them privately about their stay with the nanny while you are away or just like what I said earlier, ask for a police clearance, or quietly do a criminal record check. If you are still too skeptical about it, ditch the blind date and go to a reliable nanny agency! That way, you won’t hope the odds be in your favor, it will surely do!
Established in 1989, Nannies Incorporated offers extra hands for families seeking help of a nanny – maternity nurse, house nanny, governess. They have office in London, Paris and Dubai but their services are worldwide. Their mission? To make you confident that your child is in safe hands.

Just remember, having nannies are more than hiring services, they deserved to be treated as family members because they give care and comfort to our very own children and family members in times of our needs like sickness and they’ll be there to witness your family’s special occasions, too. They will take care of your family (assistance) to take care of their own family (financially), too.

MediCard offers food intolerance testing

Do you feel bloated or suffer headaches after eating certain food items? Your body may be "secretly" reacting to the food you have just eaten. It is also possible that some of the recurring health issues you have been experiencing are caused by certain food that your body cannot tolerate.

According to Dr. Nicky Montoya, president of MediCard Philippines, a leading health maintenance organization, "food intolerance, unlike food allergy, manifests symptoms gradually, usually 72 hours to a few days after eating the offending food. It may cause different inflammatory symptoms which may affect different organs of the body and manifests as weight gain, bloating, migraine, body aches and pains including joint pains, PMS, depression etc. These can also become worse over time and may lead to more serious health problems, such as heart disease, cancer and the likes, if ignored." Due to food intolerance' delayed onset to manifest in the body, it is difficult to trace the root cause which is often just the food you are intolerant to.

MediCard has recently introduced FoodPrint, the most advanced and comprehensive food intolerance testing, to its members. This food intolerance test from the UK helps identify the food groups that trigger health problems. It involves exposing your body to 220 food items then taking a pin-prick sample of your blood for analysis. The test is a preventive measure and lifestyle modification tool. Knowing what food your body cannot tolerate can help you get rid of the symptoms and prevents the development of other diseases, like cancer and diabetes.

Food intolerance is a detrimental reaction of the body after ingesting certain food and beverages, which usually triggers a mild inflammatory reaction of the gut and digestive problems, like diarrhea and constipation. Its other symptoms include migraines, mod dines, and tiredness at certain times of the day, and difficulty losing weight.

MediCard offers a discounted rate for the Food intolerance Test - PHP 11,400 for MediCard members and PHP 12,000 for non-member until July 31, 2016 only. After the test, you will be given a personalized food report and dietary guidebook.

The innovative service is offered at the MediCard Lifestyle Center, a first-of-its-kind wellness center in Makati, and at the MediCard clinics in Centris, EDSA and Alabang. To avail of the service, call the MediCard Lifetime Center at (02) 894-5720 or 878-5101, MediCard Centris, EDSA at (02) 920-5164 or 775-4629, and MediCard Alabang at (02) 850-3209 or 807-9219.

My baby's photo album

Baby grows so fast. For me, keeping your baby's photo is soooo important. You can open the photo album reminscing the moments with your baby. Smiling and laughing at the pictures. Realizing how cute and adorable your baby is! So, I bought a Baby photo album, get the pictures from my ultrasound and cut it out, I printed the photos from my mobile cellphone and guess what? I also put our first family picture, when he's still in my tummy! I also include the picture when we arrived at the Hospital and my remembrance when I'm lying down, waiting for me to pop!

I arranged the photos accordingly. From our first family photo, when he's still in my tummy. When we arrived at the Hospital and when I'm lying down, waiting for my baby to come out. I really didn't forget to take a picture even though I'm in pain! Haha! (Sabi ko, kailangan ko to' sa album ni baby)

I'm not yet done in my baby's album. My baby is 9 months only and I have a lots and lots of photos to print and to take. So, make a time for this and you'll love doing and arranging too!

60% of patients with heart disease fail to comply with theirmedication, study shows

For patients with cardiovascular disorders, adherence to medication goes a long way in ensuring that their health is in its tiptop condition. However, 60 percent of these patients are not complying with the medication as prescribed by their doctors, according to a study.

Published in the American Heart Association, the study revealed that non adherence to medication remains to be a major problem for cardiovascular patients, often leading to poor clinical outcomes, frequent hospitalizations, and increased mortality.

To prevent the worst consequences of heart disease, expert says that religious compliance to medication should be a top priority—starting from curbing the risk factors associated with the disorder.

“One of the risk factors for developing heart disease is having high blood cholesterol levels, which increases the risk of formation of plaques and atherosclerosis,” said Dr. Amado Nazal, medical director of Pharex HealthCorp. “If our patients will comply with their medication from the moment their doctors instructed them to lower their cholesterol levels, then we will be able to keep their condition from worsening.”

He added, “We believe that many patients fail to adhere to their medication because of the costs that come with it. However, medication need not be expensive. This is why at Pharex, we provide optimum health assistance to these patients through maintenance medicines that are not only of high quality but also affordable.”

Pharex HealthCorp., the most prescribed brand of medicines, offers quality maintenance medicines that are designed to help curb high cholesterol levels at an affordable price.

With Pharex’s 15-day Compliance Pouch for Cholesterol, patients will be able to comply with their medication to prevent tendencies of having chronic cardiovascular diseases.

“Fat as a result of bad cholesterol can build up on the walls of your heart’s arteries, which suppresses the smooth blood circulation that’s crucial to our body system’s functions,” Nazal said.

When arteries are narrowed down or blocked, the heart will not be able to pump blood to the other parts of the body, Nazal added. “Too much cholesterol weakens our heart, therefore putting to risk our lives.”

“With the new Pharex 15-day Compliance Pouch for Cholesterol, we are assuring patients of three things: first, they can conveniently bring their medicine whenever and wherever they go as it is packed in a resealable foil pouch. Second, it’s affordable and accessible to leading drugstores nationwide.Lastly, healthcare professionals proved and tested the effectiveness of the medicine, making it a top choice for people who have high cholesterol levels,” said Nazal.

Nazal concluded, “Failure to comply with medication could cost our lives more than we realize. Now that the new Compliance Pouch for Cholesterol is here, patients will be more able to improve the quality of their lives without the added costs.”

The new Pharex Compliance Pouch is available in all leading drugstores. For more
information, please contact 4338088 (local 820).

Baby's first bath

Bathing can be a fun bonding experience for you and your baby. Most babies love bath time and while it may take a few baths to get the hang of it, you'll be a pro in no time.

MOM TIPS

-Try sponge bathing until your newborn's umbilical stump falls off. This helps keeps it dry and helps it heal.

-Once the umbilical area is healed, you can try placing your baby directly in the water, you might find this easiest in a baby bath, sink or plastic tub lined with a clean towel.

-Use warm water. You can check with your elbow first in case it's too hot.

-Make sure wash cloths, soap and towel are in easy reach as you will need to hold baby at all times.

-After the bath, pat your baby dry, making sure to gently dry between the folds of the skin.

-When she/he is clean and dry, put on a fresh diaper, pick her up for a cuddle and take in that wonderful smell of a freshly bathed newborn -it's the best.

When it comes to mew to taking care of your baby's umbilical stump, keep these tips in mind:

-Dab the stump with a clean, wet cotton ball or swab at every diaper change.

-Pay special attention to the area at the base of the cord, nearest to the belly button. Wipe gently but thoroughly to clean out any moist debris that may have collected there.

-Be sure to allow air to reach the cord stump.

-If you notice redness or discharge from the stump, consult your baby's health care provider.

Baby's first small sleeps

It's been a long day a the hospital. Your new baby is probably s giggling up to you for his first small sleeps and he'll be at it for a while.

During the first few weeks, newborns can sleep up to 16 -20 hours a day in 3-4 hour stretches.

Make sure they sleep safely and peacefully by:
-Placing baby to sleep on her back on a firm surface.
-Keeping extras like pillows, stuffed animals, and comforters out of the crib.
-Sleeping near baby but not in the same bed.
-Maintaining room temperature at the low to mid twenties cel is (around 22C) or around 70F.

MOM TIPS
-Help your baby to learn the difference between night and day by keeping light dimmed during the night and bright during the day.
-Always feed and change baby's diaper right before bed.
-Newborns spend so much time on their baca sleeping so it's important to give them plenty of time on their tummies, or in an upright position when they are awake.
-Avoid unnecessary wake ups by choosing a diaper that's comfortable and gives lasting dryness, like Pampers Premium Care.

Your newborn will need to eat approximately every three hours, around the clock. But don't worry, over time she will learn to go longer between feeds and sleep longer overnight (with a few naps during the day). Here is a rough guide to sleep by age:

Newborn:  16-20 hours per day
6 weeks:   15-16 hours per day
4 months:  9-12 hours plus 2 naps
6 months:  11 hours plus 2 naps
9 months:   11-12 hours plus 2 naps

Feeding Baby for the First Time

    My newborn baby Jamiel :)

Within the first hour in your arms, your baby will be ready for their first feed. Whether you choose to breastfeed or not, you are going to spend a lot of time feeding your baby over the first few weeks and months.

Breastfeeding can be the most natural thing in the world but it isn't always the easiest. It may take time for both you and your baby to get used to. Remember, it's the first time for both of you.

Your first breast milk is a special substance called colostrum. It's a yellowish fluid full of protein and immunity-boosting antibodies great for baby.

Breastfeeding can be difficult so try not to get too worried, talk to a doctor or a lactation consultant for help. If breastfeeding isn't for you, there are great milk formula alternatives available. The important thing is that your baby gets the nutrition she/he needs.

MOM TIPS

-A good latch is key. Wait until your baby's mouth is open wide and then help her latch. The areole should be in the baby's mouth. The squeezing action on the areole is what releases the milk. If it doesn't feel right, use your finger to break the suction and try again.

-Each breastfeed typically lasts between 20-45 minutes every 3 hours.

-Check if baby is eating enough by tracking how long you nursed, on which breaks, and count their wet diapers. In the first few days, there should be 1-3 wet diapers per day. A diaper with a urine activated wetness indicator can help with this.

RELIV NOW WITH LUNA RICH

NUTRITION MADE SIMPLE

Your body needs an incredible array of proteins, vitamins and minerals to function at its best. To maintain health, all of these ingredients must be balanced through proper nutrition.

Unfortunately, busy lifestyles and poor food choices make it nearly impossible for most of us to receive the micronutrients we need to preserve this natural balance. That's why so many physicians and nutriotionist recommend food supplements as part of our daily diet. Reliv Now with Luna Rich provides all the nutritional support you've been looking for in a convenient, easy-to-use product. Excellent daily nutrition just doesn't get any simpler!

THE BURDEN OF NUTRITIONAL DEFICIENCIES

Research shows that many Filipinos don't have much access to fresh, nutritious and diverse foods such as vegetables, fruits and grains. This limitation forces us to rely on readily available, convenient and processed foods that are loaded with chemicals, preservatives and other harmful ingredients. The result? More and more undernourished children are being born and a significant number of adults acquire non-communicable or lifestyles-related diseases such as heart problems, hypertension, diabetes, among others.

Inadequate nutrition can leave you feeling tired and depressed. Even marginal deficiencies of minerals and vitamins have been shown to affect immunity, slowing down your body's ability to heal itself and leaving you less able to fight off viruses and infections.

FEEL YOUR BEST THROUGH ADVANCED NUTRITION

Reliv Now bridges the nutritional gap created by poor lifestyle and eating choices. It is precisely designed to help enhance one's overall wellbeing by providing optimal levels of nutrition in addition to the food we eat.

RELIV NOW goes beyond a standard multivitamin pill, giving you more of everything your body needs everyday to function at its best.

You get double the amount of vitamins B and E, and as much as eight times the vitamin C. In addition, Reliiv Now delivers higher levels of essential minerals such as copper, zinc and calcium.

More than 170 studies have demonstrated Pycnogenol's ability to fight free radical damage, improve blood circulation and lower blood glucose, among other benefits.

PROTEIN: packs a powerful protein punch. Doctors recommend 50 grams of protein daily, but most multivitamins contain none. Reliv Now gives you 7 grams per serving of the highest-quality,healthy soy protein available.

LUNARICH: Reliv's exclusive LunaRich soy powder contains five to ten times the bioactive lunasin of ordinary soy powders. It can improve your health by aiding cholesterol management, weight loss, building stronger bones and muscles, addressing women's health issues and more.

Single/Single episode 5 fast forward to the future

(L-R) Matteo Guidicelli, Shaina Magdayao and JC Santos breathe life to the millennial characters of Joey, Joee and Steve in Single/Single Season 2

How do the characters see themselves ten years from now? This is the big question that will be tackled this Sunday in PhilStarTV and Cinema One’s first-ever breakthrough series, Single/Single season 2. Prepare to laugh and learn watchingyour favorite weekend barkada get lost in reverie of sorts imagining their #FutureNow.

This episode will give you a peek into the characters deepest dreams and aspirations.  Joey, played Matteo Guidicelli, envisions his future as a successful entrepreneur and family man. This is what prompted him to leave his carefree days as a musician.  Now he’s taken on a new challenge – trying to become a serious businessman by setting up his own bar. Does his vision include Shaina Magdayao’s character, Joee? Will his feisty, sometimes over-protective mom, Bianca, played by Cherie Gil, support this change?

As for Joee, we saw her struggle in balancing her work and her relationship with Steve. Her dilemma was supposed to be resolved by Steve’s sacrificial resignationNow that Steve gave way for her to have time for both, she is more focused onbeing career-driven and dead set to rise up the corporate ladder, something that she had always dreamed of. In fact, in her reverie, she achieves awards for her accomplishments but will Steve still be a part of her future?

Brian Sy’s comic character, Benny, on the other hand also imagines himself successful a decade forward – someone who can proudly face his ex-boyfriends with a triumphant look on his face and so much money in his pockets. However, as he sets out to make his dreams come true, he gets caught up in a rather hilariousmisadventure that will teach him a lesson of a lifetime.

Join the whole Single/Single gang as they go through another chapter of adulting, taking the first steps toward achieving their dreamsSingle/Single Season 2 airs every Sunday, 10PM in Cinema One with replays every Wednesday, 8:30 PM and Saturdays, 9PM.
