Why multi-faceted mom Keri Zamora sparkles like MyDiamond

Keri Zamora with daughter Amanda

The incredibly stylish Keri Zamora is the epitome of a modern mom: goal-oriented, multi-faceted, yet in every way caring, doting, and hands-on.

As we celebrate Mother’s day, Keri shares some practical advice for working moms on how to balance their time between career and family, while allowing breathing space to pursue personal hobbies and goals.

Raising four lovely kids in ages seventeen, fourteen, eight, and six, Keri makes sure she is involved in their various activities and interests –attending daughter Amanda’s fashion shows and son Rocco’s basketball games; waking up early for Noah’s soccer practices; and joining Nic in his golf lessons.

Keri’s other persona is that of an entrepreneur. Together with two other friends, she founded Style Trio, an online clothing business. “Having my good friends as partners in my business makes things easier. We divide our tasks so I can work from home and have more quality time with the family.”

As if that weren’t enough, Keri is also a lifestyle blogger with her site Flats & Stilettos, which caters to young and passionate moms who, like her, are ‘”always out and about – be it for our family or for our own personal growth and interests.”

Keri wants to make it known to other moms that they need not give-up pursuing their own personal passions even as they raise a growing family. She also stresses the importance of ‘me time’—the chance to relax, unwind, and pamper one’s self.

In Keri’s case, she turns to gym sessions, online shopping, Netflix, and answering messages on her blog. “Allow yourself to relax, enjoy, and recharge—take that trip with your girlfriends, go to the spa, or gift yourself with something you’ve always wanted.”

Undeniably, fashion is one of Keri’s serious passions and serves as another self-care outlet for her.She describes her personal style asclassic with a twist. “Matching the right accessories is essential too”, she says, “and that includes diamond jewelry from MyDiamond’s Signature Collection”.
For her, the must-have piece of jewelry for every woman is a pair of diamond stud earrings, “I think it’s the most classic and elegant go-to earring which you can wear every day at any occasion.”Keri also shares that one should choose jewelry that is attuned to one’s individuality.
And just like MyDiamond, multi-faceted Keri Zamora clearly sparkles in everything that she does, most especially as a mother. “Motherhood has taught me to be selfless and to be more patient. I may have a lot on my plate right now, but I know my priorities. And that is why I always put my children’s needs before mine.”

Making life better: The many faces of a hardworking Pinoy

We all look forward to making our lives better regardless of what 'better' means for us. We all strive at our own pace, focusing on working hard in order to reach our personal end goals. This is why some of us also look forward to a deserving relaxation time alone or with family, friends and loved ones, especially on Labour Day. It is, after all, the day for the hardworking ones, a holiday meant to honour the efforts and contributions made to have a better life and a community.

But while Labour Day provides the hardworking Pinoys to get a day off, many still do not have the luxury of celebrating the day on their own terms.

Last Labour Day, we asked five different workers how they manage to persevere despite having a job that barely affords them the opportunity to enjoy the holidays, even the one that is intended for them.

Rhea Abiada, 29
Nurse

(At first it was difficult, but you’ll get used to it. That’s what your profession calls for, so it’s not a problem. I enjoy being stationed at the pediatric ward. It’s great when the kids are finally smiling at you, especially when earlier you worried about their condition and then they recover and come back and they’re all healthy again).

Mary Grace Arca, 31
Housekeeper

(At first, I moved to Cavite to work as a housekeeper so that I could live independently. But I really wanted to also help my family. Of course, it’s hard to be away from them, but I realised how hard our life in the province truly was. It really wasn’t enough. So, I’ve accepted that it’s my responsibility to help).

Marlon Bucad, 30
Jeepney driver

(Getting nagged by my wife is harder. As far as dreams go, I’m already good with what I’m doing. My only dream is for my children. I want them to be able to finish school).

John-John “Ambo” Maeso, 29
Taho vendor

Mahirap ‘pag mainit. Pati na ‘din ‘pag umuulan. Mahina kita. Pangarap ko kasi magkaroon ng motor para lagyan ng sidecar pang-service. Para kahit umuulan, kahit walang benta, may pagkakakitaan pa rin ako.”

(It’s challenging when it’s too hot. The same when it rains. Sales are slow. My dream is to buy a motor that I can attach a sidecar to and then use for [school] service. So even if income from selling taho is low, I’d still have another way of earning money).

Juliet Carrascal, 50
Sidewalk vendor

“Kahit Pasko man ‘yan o baha, nagbebenta pa din ako dito. May kikitain pa ‘ko.”

(Whether it’s Christmas or even if there’s a storm, I remain at this post to sell goods. Sometimes, in fact, I don’t get to go home anymore as there’s nobody to take over my post. But that’s okay. I can just buy food and have my meals here knowing my family has food on the table at home. I enjoy my work here. The time just passes by. You get to talk to a lot of people; you meet a lot and you get to experience many things. I’ve spent a good number of years here. I used to gamble a lot but after I started being vendor here, I stopped all my vices. Instead of gambling, I might as well just sell and earn.)

The working Filipino has many different faces. He could be Ambo, who continues striving to earn more for his family. She could be Mary Grace, persevering for her family despite being away from them. This present-day hero could be Marlon, chasing not their own dreams but for others. Or she could be Rhea and Juliet, who see their roles as something more than a job but rather as a vocation and a source of joy.

No matter the kind of worker one is or the kind of job he or she has, anyone who makes an honest living should be celebrated for their hard work and contributions to their family and communities. We salute our fellow Filipinos who face life with great optimism and perseverance to make lives better.

Hone the next big startup with QBO’s Startup Roadshow

The multi-city roadshow aims to level up tech startups, small businesses all over the country
The future of Philippine startups looks bright with the Philippines national ranking up by 16 positions, according to the recently released StartupBlink Ecosystem Ranking Report. To continue this momentum, QBO Innovation Hub, the Philippines’ first public-private sector initiative which aims to connect, transform, and empower Filipino startups, holds the Startup Roadshow starting this May.
The roadshow aims to inspire innovators and enable communities throughout the country through sessions on startup business concepts and tools, ideation, design thinking, business model canvas, and local ecosystem mapping. Facilitated by highly experienced QBO members and startup founders, the workshops are designed to be fun and engaging to spark the participants’ creativity as they kickoff their startup journey. The event also features panel discussions and networking opportunities for those wanting to connect with fellow tech leaders.
“The local startup ecosystem continues to grow due to sustained confidence in the country’s economy, technological advancements, and newly-introduced regulations such as the ‘Innovative Startup Act’ which seeks to promote ease of doing business in the Philippines,” says Katrina Chan, Director of QBO Innovation Hub. “While it’s all helpful in creating a healthy business environment for Filipino entrepreneurs, there are more opportunities to bring cutting-edge ideas to life.”
This is the second time that QBO Innovation Hub is holding the roadshow across major cities in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. In 2018, 13 cities and over 1,300 participants joined the first run of the roadshow. Government organizations signed partnerships with QBO to contribute to countryside development efforts. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) was among the first to get on board, sponsoring programs in 7 cities last year.
QBO hopes to make this year’s roadshow bigger through the support of more partners, communities, and business owners. Interested partners who want to bring the workshop to their respective communities, schools, or cities can host an introductory workshop using QBO’s set module. Partners wanting to learn specific skills or learn more about certain topics can have custom-made workshops as well.
“We saw the impact of last year’s roadshow in answering what most aspiring startup founders want to know: ‘Where do we start?’ We want to help them figure out the answer,” adds Chan. “We’d also like for more partners to come on board with us to help discover the next wave of homegrown startups that will put our country on the global innovation map. Who knows? The next big thing may be in your school, your community, or your city.”
To learn more about the Startup Roadshow, visit http://www.qbo.com.ph/ and https://www.facebook.com/QBOphilippines/ or email karla@qbo.com.ph.

Gifted kids shine bright in Promil Four’s i-Shine 7 Celebrate the Gift Recital

Over 270 Promil Four i-Shine 7 talent camp i-Shiner graduates took the stage to shine bright, wowing the audience with amazing creations and inspiring performances during Promil Four’s i-Shine 7 Celebrate the Gift Recital at SMX Aura.

Ms. Dimples Romana

Ever-supportive parents, relatives, mentors, and other kids filled the SMX Aura Convention Center with cheers and applause as they witnessed future artists, dancers, musicians, ballerinas, and actors conquer the stage. Seasoned actress Dimples Romana, who has been hosting Promil Four’s i-Shine ever since its beginning in 2009, once again  had the honor of hosting the recital.

Art Camp i-Shiners

To begin the celebration, members of the Art Camp, under the mentorship of Teacher Robert Alejandro of Papemelroti and Teacher Kara of Masterpiece Movement, cultivated the value of Imagination through creative exploration and self-expression as they showcased a lovely mural & tunnel that they worked on during their workshop.

Dance Camp i-Shiners

Next, participants of the Dance Camp, mentored by G-Force choreographers and guided by Teacher Georcelle Dapat-Sy, brought the house down with both beginner and intermediate hip-hop moves. Through sequences of steps, rhythmic patterns, thumping beats, and awesome formations, each Promil Four i-Shiner explored and found a passion for dance. The value of Teamwork was incorporated as an important part of their learning during their workshops, allowing them to work together while also expressing individuality in their performance.

Ballet Camp i-Shiners

Meanwhile, the little ballerinas melted the audience’s hearts because of their frilly tutus and satin ballet shoes. Personally taught and led by Prima Ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde of Ballet Manila, the little ballerinas demonstrated poise and grace with their smooth and delicate movements. With the help of Promil Four i-Shine7 Ballet Camp, the little girls learned the value of discipline that they will take with them beyond the workshop.

Theater Camp i-Shiners

Next, the Theatre Camp i-Shiners showed off their confident, gregarious, and versatile selves on stage. One of the Promil Four Theater camp i-Shiners’ performances was the popular fable “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” directed by Coaches from Trumpets Playshop. Through imagination and creativity, as well as embracing the arts in all its forms, the Theatre Camp took a step closer towards creating well-rounded, confident, and versatile kids.

Music Camp i-Shiners

Members of the Music Camp showcased their gift through a lively performance of voices and instruments in perfect harmony, guided by National Artist, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab. While the kids learned new musical lessons, they were also imparted with improved skills, confidence, and an increased awareness of the learning and leadership needed to thrive in life.

Promil Four’s i-Shine 7 Camps ran from April to May 2019.  This year’s camp locations expanded beyond Metro Manila with the addition of Batangas, Cebu, and Davao. Promil Four, as part of its commitment, continues to encourage parents to nurture their children’s gifts, not only with expert guidance, but also with proper nutrition. The New Promil Four’s Nutrissentials are now made even better with Oligofructose, to help support proper growth and mental development. Hip-hop dancer, 3D artist, and music prodigy join Promil Four’s i-Shine Talent Camp 7

It’s summertime! Some kids spent their vacations glued to their gadgets, but there are other kids, like Rhian Udalve, Geof Liwanag, and Jade Lawrence Yusiong, who joined Promil Four’s i-Shine Talent Camp this summer, the breeding ground for talented children in the arts, dance, and music.

Promil Four’s i-Shine Talent Camp, now on its 7th season, continues to provide parents withvenues for a much more productive summer break for theirchildren.  These three kids, along with hundreds like them every year, look forward to the camp as a stepping stone to reach their dreams of shining in their respective fields of interest.

Rhian Udalve of Dance Camp

For Rhian, 10, this summer was all about honing her skills in dance. Promil Four’s i-Shine 7 Dance Camp taught her hip-hop moves that she picked up from the talented G-Force choreographers. She dreams of becoming an actress and professional dancer, just like her idol Maja Salvador. Her aspirations are fully supported by both parents. “Para sa anak ko ito. Nakita namin na may potential siya at susuportahan namin ang pangarap niya,” her dad Rolly said. He also said he is willing to work thrice as hard if that’s what it takes to provide her with opportunities to learn.

Geof Liwanag of Art Camp

Another kid who made the mostof summer vacation is Geof, 9, who spent his break thinking outside the box at Promil Four’s i-Shine 7 Art Camp. His mom, KC Enerva, is happy with the outcome. “I enrolled him in i-Shine because alam ko yung quality ng camps based on previous i-Shiners. Perfectionist kasi si Geof, pero ngayon natuto siya na it’s okay to make mistakes and ask for help from others,” she said.

Mentored by teachers Robert Alejandro and Kara Escay, Art Camp is a place where children have fun exploring, growing, and learning about themselves, the people, and the world around them.

Geof was three years old when his mom noticed that he was skilled in arts and sciences. Admittedly a fast learner, Geof has not only improved on his art structures and 3D paintings, but also his social skills. “I’m so happy that I have new friends and I learned that it’s okay to make mistakes because that’s how I grow,” he said.

Jade Lawrence Yusiong of Music Camp

Indeed, growing is an integral lesson in the camps. This new environment gives them the chance to try take on new challenges and pick up new skills, as Jade, 6, discovered as he explored and honed his musical gift.

Mentored by none other than National Artist Ryan Cayabyab himself and teachers from his Music School, Jade had the time of his life discovering and developing his craftc. According to his mom Annie Yusiong, Jade taught himself to play the piano at age 2, and has showed serious signs of interest since then.

Jade is one of the youngest in the camp. He is very obedient and keeps his mind open to new musical possibilities. “My new friends and I always enjoy the activities in camp because we learned that everyone is gifted in their own way,” he said.

As Promil Four’s i-Shine Talent Camp stays true to its mission of nurturing the gift, the next generation of awe-inspiring kids is guided by some of the country’s finest experts andmentors to help them reach their full potential through mental, physical, and social stimulation workshops.

After a summer of unique learning and growth opportunities, Promil Four i-Shiners will graduate from the camps with more than just new relationships; they learned to cooperate with and respect others, as well as take responsibility as young individuals. Promil Four’s i-Shine Talent Camp experience gave them an advantage to shine not just on stage or in the studio, but also in life.

Pampers Launches the #BetterForBaby Advocacy to Support Unhindered Movement and Development

Since my baby was born, I've tried different diaper but I observed that Pampers is the driest diaper. At first, I thought Pampers was too expensive for a diaper but when I compute the consumption of my baby on other brand, it's more expensive because I always changed his diaper from time to time. I also had an experience on other brand that my baby was crying and woke up because of wet diaper, not only that, our bed sheet was so wet! So, I always choose Pampers because It's very important for my baby to have a good night sleep and I'm rest assured that Pampers won't give my baby a rashes because it's the driest diaper ever! I'm happy that Pampers can give the comfort we want for our little one!

Pampers and celebrity mom, Sarah Lahbati, hosted over 100 moms to launch their new nationwide advocacy called Pampers #BetterforBaby Movement last May 2, 2019 at Palm Grove, Rockwell Club. The advocacy is a call-to-action for everyone in the Philippines to help give babies a world of unhindered play and movement, so they are free to learn and explore the world. This starts with helping babies to move comfortably by wearing less lawlaw diapers like Pampers.

During the event, Sarah shared why she partnered with Pampers: “I’m so excited to launch the #BetterforBaby campaign with Pampers. I’ve learned that the more our babies play and move, the more it helps them develop their skills. We need to pay close attention to the small yet critical things that can help them move better, such as the right diaper. I chose Pampers for Zion, and even now with Kai.  I know they are able to move better and with greater ease because Pampers is less lawlaw compared to other brands.”

Pampers invited a panel of experts to talk more about the importance of movement for baby’s development, and the many ways families can help.  This means giving babies plenty of time to play, advocating for more galaw-friendly public spaces, and ensuring babies move comfortably in a less lawlaw diaper.

Ms. Bambi Borneo, President of Mother and Child Nursing Association of the Philippines (MCNAP) shares, “2-3 hours of playtime and exercise for babies during the day will not only help them develop physically, but cognitively as well. It’s important for babies to move comfortably without much bulk hindering their movement. So, a good diaper na less lawlaw is very important.”

As part of the launch, Pampers unveiled the PampersLessLawlaw.com microsite where everyone who wants to show support for the advocacy can share the badge, and share stories of how they are making life #BetterForBaby. These all add up to points in the microsite, and for 10,000 points and more, Pampers will be donating newborn kits and galaw-friendly play areas to hospitals across the Philippines. Reaching 30,000 points will enable Pampers to donate to 5 chosen hospitals across the Philippines. Those who join can also get a chance to win up to 3 months’ supply of Pampers.

Everyone at the event was very excited to be a part of the #BetterForBaby Movement and sign up on the site. Ms. Ragene Palma, Urban Planner and one of the panelists of the event, shares, “Thanks to Pampers #BetterforBaby, we can raise awareness of how important movement is for a baby’s overall development. We can create more galaw-friendly spaces in more communities which is crucial in aiding in the development of babies.”

There are many ways that the general public can support this advocacy:
  1. Watch this online video and share it via social media:  https://youtu.be/7urGe3tr1_I
  2. Share the Pampers #BetterForBaby badge here to show support for the movement: www.pamperslesslawlaw.ph
  3. Share a personal story on the site, or how you have used less lawlaw diapers for your baby

While each baby moves and learns at their own pace, it is everyone’s job to make sure we let each baby be free to move as freely as they please.  Through the #BetterforBaby movement and through advocating for less lawlaw diapers, Pampers and Sarah hopes everyone can do their part to make life better for baby.
