BDJ Passion Series: Moments of Success!
Everyone of us is dreaming of having our own business. Last September 16, 2018, I was happy to be invited at the 2nd BDJ Passion Series: Moments of Success. They have invited three entrepreneurs from different fields to share their successful stories to inspire everyone to work hard in the pursuit of their dreams in life and bellas of BDJ got the chance to hear the successful inspiring stories!
The first speaker studied BS Health Sciences. He joined SEA Camp and he took a solid waste Solid Management class in Romania. He was also involved in environmental-related activities. It was Mr. Pocholo Miguel-Espina, young CEO and founder of Sip PH.
Did you know that the Philippines is the 3rd largest contributor of plastic waste in our oceans? And did you know that 1 million seabirds, 100,000 sharks, turtles, dolphins and whales die from eating plastics every year?
Mr. Pocholo noticed that one of the biggest problem of the world today is having so much plastic waste and using a single-use plastic straw are adding so much on that waste. That's why he got an idea of establishing a business where we can reduce the usage of plastic straw by selling a steel straw that are reusable for a long period of time. He also selling a bamboo utensils for a living.
At the event, he has an example picture of a plastic bag and a jellyfish. We see the difference but the turtle does not. So when the turtle ate the plastic, the turtle's stomach tells to the brain that he's full. So they'll eventually stop eating and die.
Plastic releases toxins over time and many fish in the oceans ate plastics and we eat the fish so at the end of the day, It all comes back in the food we eat.
That's why it's a great idea to reduce our plastic bag footprint by simply bringing our own reusable bag when doing a grocery, bringing a tupperware if you're going to buy fish and also bringing our own mug when buying coffee outside. And by simply doing that, it makes a big difference!

She easily gets bored when she felt no challenge of what she's doing that's why she tried being an flight attendant for only 6 months, became a full time modeling here in Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia. She even tried being an extra in Television show and in a movie. She became an International Fashion buyer, and seller at lazada, also went to zalora as a fashion buyer, applied in CashCash Pinoy.
She also worked at PLDT Voyager.
She tried everything because she really want to explore things.
She also worked at PLDT Voyager.
She tried everything because she really want to explore things.
And up to now she's a StartUp Founder, E-Commerce Professor and Ambasadress of Change.
At the event, she share her entrepreneurial story in Turning An Idea Into Reality talk.
She and her bestfriend thinking about creating an app where they can grant somebody's wishes to wear like sending a photo of what exactly you like to wear and they will be the one to saw it and produce it for you but they pause that idea for a while because of some legal restrictions.
Instead of an app, they created a website where you can answer a quick quiz to know your preferences like your size, favorite color, fabric you like and don't like, parts of the body you want to hide and the body parts you want to emphasize, etc. And they will be the one to saw it and produce it for you.
She used to wake up, take a shower, open her closet and scream "I have nothing to wear!" even though she has a lot of clothes to wear. That's how she came up with that idea and realize that maybe many women experience that.
Some people think that styling is only for celebrities but styling can be for everyone!
They are the first styling and clothing subscriptions box in the Philippines and it's very easy to use.

Second, be passionate about your customers. It's very important. As an entrepreneur, its not about you, it's about your customers. So know what do they need and what do they not need. Be passionate about customer experience and being passionate about keeping them for a lifetime.

BGC Arts Center Launches Pinoy Playlist 2018
An annual music festival showcasing the tapestry of Filipino Musicality
curated by Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Moy Ortiz, and Noel Ferrer
Music is the architecture of the Filipino soul; it has scored our personal and collective lives through the ages. While many things divide us, we Filipinos hold music as the deep common denominator of our “Filipino-ness”. It is time we have a collective celebration of Filipino music – harvest its nourishing past, revel in its present forms, and also innovate by fusing past and present across musical genres of Filipino music.
For 6 days in October this year, October 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20, 2018, the BGC Arts Center will launch a landmark festival: "Pinoy Playlist 2018, Ito ay Atin, Sariling Atin". Made possible with the support of Sun Life Foundation, it will be the first of an annual Music Festival curated by Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Moy Ortiz, and Noel Ferrer. The festival will gather great music being generated and appreciated in pockets of ages and places, collectively showcase them, and hopefully serve to inspire the collective rise of Filipino music.
Pinoy Playlist will reinvigorate the tradition of Filipino music by exposing the breadth and range of Filipino musicality across time, from vocal groups, solo, bands, classic, indigenous, pop, and collaborations in between these forms of musicality, to celebrate the evolving nature of Filipino music. The matrix of Filipino music will shine in its variety and blaze with the talent of artists across generations.
“Pinoy Playlist 2018, Ito ay Atin, Sariling Atin” is a labor of love of the Pinoy Playlist curators of whom the BGC Arts Center is immensely proud and grateful to be working with.
Maestro Ryan Cayabyab composer and conductor, is among the supernova standard bearers of Filipino music. His works range from commissioned full-length ballets, theater musicals, choral pieces, a Mass set to unaccompanied chorus, and orchestral pieces, to commercial recordings of popular music, film scores and television specials. He got involved with Pinoy Playlist because he says: “At the end of the day, nothing compares to coming together to experience the rich tapestry of homegrown Pinoy music.”
Noel Ferrer is a respected writer, critic, talent manager, producer of award winning films and television shows. He has published the groundbreaking book on the making of stars and celebrities in the Philippines through Anvil Publishing. He is also the official spokesperson and education committee head of the Metro Manila Film Festival as well as an active member of the Entertainment Troika of the Philippine Entertainment Portal. Working to make Pinoy Playlist happen, he said: “There is Cinemalaya and other indie film festivals and of course the MMFF for cinema; there is Virgin LabFest and before a National Theater Festival; it is important that there is common ground in Pinoy Playlist featuring all genres, all kinds of artists in their most creative concert formats to showcase the best in Filipino music.”
Moy Ortiz has been singing harmony all his life––from his earliest years in primary school to his final year in the Ateneo. He is one of the original and founding members of the country's premier vocal group, The Company, of which he is the artistic and musical director. Moy is also an award-winning composer, arranger, and producer. He also teaches classes and workshops at Mint College and Trumpets Playshop respectively. On his motivation behind realizing Pinoy Playlist, he said: “We need to acknowledge, honor and celebrate Filipino music in all its forms.”
BGC Arts Center Head of Content, Maria Isabel Garcia maintains this would not have happened without those who care for Pinoy music with their lives: “The BGC Arts Center is passionately committed to create and celebrate Filipino stories of creativity and there is nothing like music to inhabit those stories. We applaud the passion and work of our curators and the over 100 Filipino musicians and production teams who finely tuned into the Pinoy Playlist idea and contribute to the evolving tapestry of Pinoy Music.”

Putting the Philippines at the forefront of global tourism
Over 200 international buyers from 30 countries, together with more than 220 local sellers, converged at the Marriott Grand Ballroom for this year’s Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX), one of the biggest and most significant travel trade events in the country. Organized by the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) and supported by the Department of Tourism (DOT), PHITEX puts the Philippines at the forefront of global tourism by strengthening travel and trade opportunities with the international market.
Welcoming the foreign delegates to the event was DOT secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, together with TPB officer-in-charge Arnold Gonzales. Lending them a hand were DOT spokesperson Benito Bengzon Jr.; DOT regional director for CAR Venus Tan; DOT assistant secretary Verna Buensuceso; Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) assistant secretary Leo Herrera-Lim; Department of Transportation assistant secretary Mark Steven Pastor; and Pacific Asia Travel Association – Philippine chapter secretary general Dakila Gonzales.
Department of Tourism secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat
Romulo-Puyat said, “PHITEX is the biggest government-hosted trade event in the country. I am sure each of our prospective buyers will love every moment of their stay here in the country especially when they get to experience Filipino hospitality.”
“Our valuable guests are in for a great experience to discovery why it is more fun in the Philippines and why they should include the country in their respective markets’ tour packages,” said Gonzales.
Aside from the business-to-business sessions, the international buyers were also entertained with amazing cultural performances by the Sindaw Philippines Performing Arts Guild and Princess Rivera Virtudazo, and were treated to Filipino cuisine prepared by renowned chefs.
Environmentalist Gina Lopez
TPB further impressed the foreign delegates with special tours in Laguna, Tagaytay, Iloilo, Bacolod, Bicol, Ilocos, Dumaguete, Siquijor, Palawan, and Davao.
Through PHITEX, the Philippines takes the spotlight as one of the best destinations in Asia not only for travel and leisure but also for trade, history and culture, lifestyle, entertainment and business opportunities.
World-class natural remedy for Filipina beauty & wellness expert’s crowning glory
Hair loss is a concern for both men and women. It can have a devastating effect to anyone who experiences it.
According to Web MD, the average adult head has about 100,000 to 150,000 strands of hair and loses up to 100 of them a day, which is normal. As people age, their rate of hair growth slows, and they can experience losing more than hundreds of strands which is quite alarming. So what can you do to prevent it?
For beauty and wellness expert, Cory Quirino, embracing wellness is the first step to help improve the hair’s condition and make people look younger.
“If you choose to have a wellness lifestyle, then expect wonderful changes such as radiant skin, energy, and a general sense of well-being,” she emphasizes. “In time, you will realize that you have successfully delayed the aging process.”
The beauty and wellness expert says that choosing wellness as a lifestyle includes eating nutritious food, exercising, getting a good sleep, drinking generous amounts of water, managing stress, getting enough sunshine, and above all, staying positive.
On top of a daily healthy regimen, a supplement is necessary to maintain a healthy hair and scalp. Many people opt to use chemical-based products. But for her, the use of natural products is a must and the best solution for hair loss.
“There are hair treatment products in the market today that claim to be effective but their ingredients could contain chemicals that may prove harmful with long-term use,” she enthuses. “Choose natural. Say NO to harsh chemicals and let nature do the makeover,” she emphasizes.
Natural ingredients such as virgin coconut oil (VCO) and aloe vera are loaded with beneficial properties, which boost the health of the scalp and hair. These and much more natural herbs and essential oils can be found in NOVUHAIR, a topical scalp lotion with 19 natural ingredients that work in synergy to help prevent hair loss, which the beauty and wellness expert approves of.
“Even if I have been blessed with thick hair, I know that it has to be cared for,” she maintains. “I use NOVUHAIR topical scalp lotion once daily in the evening before bedtime. Next morning, I apply it on my scalp again, then a shampoo after 30 minutes. Those who wish to further thicken the hair, it is a must to also use the shampoo and conditioner daily.”
Eventually, she noticed impressive effects after using this breakthrough product: significant lessening of hair fall, abundant growth of tress, and the return of locks’ luster.
Apart from being effective, it’s a very safe solution, too. A local clinical study has proven that NOVUHAIR has no adverse side effects with continuous use.
Moreover, NOVUHAIR is not just for those who experience hair loss. Younger people, especially the millennials, can use it for maintenance or prevention if hair loss runs in the family.
Cory recommends NOVUHAIR to everyone, especially to those who want to maintain their hair the best way they can. For her, this globally-competitive natural product answers the needs of a discriminating, health-conscious public.
Born on August 11, the granddaughter of the late Philippine President Elpidio Quirino is an author, and television and radio host. She has been a strong advocate for natural health, beauty, and wellness for more than two decades.
“Twenty years ago, it was as simple a goal as weight loss. But when I saw the dramatic effect it had on my vitality and complexion, I knew that this was the good path to take. For those who wish the same things I wanted then, this would be just as easy to embrace,” Cory recalls.
She wrote a series of best-seller books entitled “Forever Young”, which feature beauty and health tips as well as her own workout programs. Likewise, she also made a fitness video called “Cory Quirino’s Celebrity Workout for Beginners”.
For her, living in the 21st century has its challenges. She says: “The best way to live long and be well is to live a natural life.”
Truly, for a natural woman like Cory, her crowning glory deserves nothing but a world-class natural remedy that is NOVUHAIR.
NOVUHAIR is available at Mercury Drug and other leading drugstores nationwide. You may also have the product delivered right at your doorstep through Lazada at https://bit.ly/2Jc92Vk

The Discovery Leisure Company, Inc. All five hotels of TDLCI - Discovery Shores Boracay, Club Paradise Palawan, Discovery Country Suites Tagaytay, Discovery Suites Manila and Discovery Primea Makati - competed for the Culinary Cup trophies in three categories: Culinary, Bartending and Table-setting.
Judges were renowned foodies: journalist Cheryl Tiu, accomplished restaurateur Happy Ongpauco-Tiu, social influencer Spanky Enriquez and lifestyle blogger Chuckie Dreyfus. TDLCI president John Tiu and chief operating officer Jun Parreño attended the event.
“Our F&B teams are a source of pride for us,” said TDLCI corporate chef and Food and Beverage director Anthony Raymond. “Our bars and restaurants have the best local talents who are innovative and pioneering. I’m happy to say we made history with our first Culinary Cup.”
