One of the highlights of the Mom and Baby Expo 2017 will be a series of talks from perinatal experts pertaining to maternal-fetal and newborn topics.

Some of the topics to be discussed during the event are tips on how to get pregnant; vaccines needed for expecting moms as well as their babies; exercise and proper nutrition for a healthy pregnancy; preconception tests and Breastfeeding Pearls Exercise. Other topics include skin care protection for women who are conceiving; importance of prenatals; and ways to safeguard against diseases like vaginal infection, UTI and STDs.
PAP President Dra. Belen Velasco notes the relevance of taking time to listen to the experts during the talks. She explains: “Our objective is simple yet powerful: to impart advices and traverse new ideas moms and expectant moms can use that will ultimately strengthen their maternal bond with their babies”.

For his part, PAP President Dr. Diosdado Mariano says “The Expo is an opportunity to analyze and seek solutions to existing issues pertaining to maternal-fetal and newborn areas in an engaging and fun way.”

Ways to Communicate with your Unborn Child

Pregnancy is the period in which a woman carries a fetus inside her body. And it is such a wonderful blessing for a woman to experience. But some women can't even imagine how a little creature develops inside their own body. The bond between the mother and her unborn child is unbreakable and it is very important. And even though a bond is already created, a mother can still do more in strengthening that bond. Here are a few things you can do:

1. Verbally - you and your partner can communicate with your unborn child verbally. You'll be surprise when he or she kicks in recognition of your voice. Talking to your unborn child together creates an early bond with your child.

2. Non-verbal through games - A touch can also be felt by your baby. Touching your belly while talking to your baby is another way to communicate with him or her. Another way to do is by simple games like tapping on your stomach and waiting for the baby fetus to kick back. Sometimes, they also change positions. Studies show that babies tend to respond to outside sounds and touches. You can even tickle your baby if you like! Massaging your belly is also important to introduce your baby to human touch and to the world outside the womb.

3. Music - music is a language everyone can understands - even your unborn child. Music provides a calm, harmonious environment in which the baby can grow in the womb. Play soothing and classical music and you'll see that your child responds to the beat of it. This can relax you and your baby as you ready for the evening rest.

The bond between the mom and her unborn child is something that's already there. By doing these tips you have more ways to be able to strengthen that bond even more.

Hair is considered as our crowning glory, hence, it is pertinent that we start with it. Here are a few tips in maintaining a healthy hair.
Observe good hygiene all the time – regularly wash your hair to remove dirt and grimes.

Be extra careful whenever combing your wet hair – your hair is vulnerable to breakage during this period.
Use towel to dry off your hair after shower – Using hair dryer can cause damage to your hair; if you must use the heat then do so sparingly.
Eat the proper nutrition- Our hair is also dependent on what we eat. Iron-rich food and protein strengthens your hair.

Give your eyes a break

Give your eyes a glare-free, well-protected summer holiday with Crizal® Prevencia muti-coated lenses

Summer is best known as the season of glare-related eyestrain, when you experience stinging of the eyes because of too much concentrated sunlight. But did you also know that eyestrain can be caused by other factors? Indoors, your eyes can also suffer long-term damage after facing the TV, gadgets or computer monitors at less than a foot away.

While light is an essential part of daily life – helping you see, regulating your body clock, and even providing you with much-needed Vitamin D – too much of it can cause painful eye conditions, including eyelid twitches, eye pain and extreme sensitivity to bright light. In severe cases, overexposure can permanently damage your central vision. Harmful blue light from artificial sources such as electronic devices causes retinal cell degeneration, while ultra-violet radiation from the sun contributes to the development of cataracts.

“Everyone, no matter the age or gender, should protect their eyes daily from bad effects of excessive exposure to light,” shares Dr. Emelita Roleda, Essilor Philippines general manager. “The effects of overexposure to UV rays and harmful blue-violet light may only be visible during adulthood, when vision problems like Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) set in, so we highly advice the Filipino public to take preventive measures against them.”

Essilor, the world’s leading ophthalmic optics company, has come up with a solution that protects vision: Crizal® Prevencia multi-coated lenses, which selectively filters bad blue light and lets in essential good light needed for well-being.

“Essilor has undergone a rigid and thorough process in the creation of Crizal® Prevencia,” explains Dr. Roleda. “Its advanced light scan technology enables us to protect our eyes from irreversible eye conditions which threaten healthy vision.”

In addition to using Crizal® Prevencia lenses, she highly advices proper eye care. “Start by getting a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year,” she says. “Your eye doctor can determine the present condition of your eyes and help you take preventive or protective measures regarding possible vision problems.”

Another way to reduce the risk of eyestrain is taking frequent breaks from reading or monitor use, shares Dr. Roleda.

Lastly, she gives some sound sartorial advice when outdoors: “This summer, load your eyeglasses with Crizal® Prevencia lenses containing E-SPF 25. Then, pair your glasses with a nice hat or a sturdy umbrella.”

Indeed, eyesight is among the most important senses, but it receives less care than it deserves. By reducing strain, limiting exposure to harmful light, and making use of eyewear like Crizal® Prevencia lenses, you can protect your eyes all day long and ensure many more years of healthy vision.

Learn more about Crizal® Prevencia by visiting your eye doctor or leading optical shop nationwide, or by logging on to www.essilor.com.ph.

Minola Premium Cooking Oil has a lauric acid, and Minola Oil is one of the leading cooking oil brands in the local market. It was established in the 1970s and is under dominant manufacturer, Coconut Industry Investment Fund Oil Mills Groups or CIIF OMG with six large oil mills and refineries stragetically located all through out the Philippines.

Coconut oil's major component is 45-52% lauric acid. Some of the chemical properties of coconut oil are saturated fatty acids like Palmitic Acid, Capric Acid and Lauric Acid.
Saturated fats may increase the level of cholesterol in the blood but this cholesterol is not always necessarily the "bad" cholesterol. Coconut Oil is classified as a superfood as recent research has shown that not all saturated fats are bad for our health and that includes coconut oil.

There are 2 types of cholesterol, first is the High Density Lipoproteins (Good Cholesterol) and second is Low Density Lipoproteins (Bad Cholesterol). The Bad Cholesterol (LDL) gets deposited in the inner walls of the arteries and poses a threat for the heart but Good Cholesterol (HDL) does just the opposite, it helps lower the LDL while providing energy and nutrition.

Every morning, we usually cook fried food such as egg, hotdog, daing, kikiam and fishballs. And we, as a mom, its very important to find the right and perfect cooking oil for our everyday uses. And Minola Premium Cooking Oil is just that!

Minola Premium Coconut Cooking Oil has been in the Philippine market for over 50 years and continue to soar in Asia, Middle East and the North America.
CIIF OMG's local cooking oil brand Minola dominates consumer pack market segment with overall leadership in the Philippine vegetable oik business and is available on all grocery outlet amd sari-sari stores nationwide.
