Celebrating Your New Bundle of Joy: The Smart Parenting Baby Shower

SmartParenting.com.ph recently held the 2nd instalment of its annual SP Baby Shower with a whole day filled with informational talks, fun activities, an invigorating yoga class and exciting raffle games, all held at Discovery Suites in Origas on August 28, 2016. Expectant mommies were pampered and given useful tips as they wait and get ready for their new bundle of joy.

The first speaker was Betty San Luis, CD, the main childhood mentor of Birthing is a Blessing, a childbirth mentoring and Doula support service, and is a certified Doula, a trained labor and birth support person who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother and her partner during pregnancy, childbirth and post-partum. She is part of Childbirth International, a global organization committed to establishing international standards for childbirth education programs and doula training.

Dra.Ella Salvador

Emergency and safety during pregnancy and at childbirth was discussed by Dra. Ella Salvador, a pediatrician at Ospital ng Muntinlupa and Unihealth-Paranaque Hospital and Medical Center.

And finally, to be ready and being well prepared for the coming of your new bundle of joy, Chiqui Brosas, an experienced childbirth educator and doula since the 1990’s and a breastfeeding advocate since 1997, shared ways on how you can face the pain and be confident in the day of labor and some relaxation techniques and exercises through a Lamaze session. Chiqui is known as the guro when it comes to natural childbirth because of her calmness and ability to control during labor and until birth.

Capping off the series of talks, a pre-natal yoga was conducted by Tanya Dela Cruz, one of the founding members of OneLife Studio, offering yoga and pilates classes.

SP Baby Shower 2 is made possible with major sponsors: Downy Babe Gentle and Belo Baby.

TPB lends a helping hand

The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) recently visited Leyte, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program to help the province recover from the aftermath of the disastrous typhoon Yolanda that hit the country in 2013.

Leyte was one of the hard-hit areas in Visayas. It was engulfed by a deadly storm surge and hundreds of families were badly affected, especially those living along the coastlines. Even after three years, the province is still recovering from the disaster as thousands lost everything – their shelter, livelihood and families.

TPB started their outreach program by bringing cheer to the orphaned and underprivileged children from the Social City Welfare, as well as the elderly from the Pope Francis Complex Center for the Poor. TPB employees donated school supplies, toys, books, canned goods, toiletries and clothes to children and elderly.

To help in protecting the coasts of Leyte from another fortuitous event, TPB employees also planted mangroves along the shores.

To cap off their charitable mission, the employees visited some of Leyte’s tourist attractions, such as the Sto. Niño Church, Palo Church, Sto. Niño Shrine and Museum, San Juanico Bridge, MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park and the Leyte Provincial Capitol. They also visited M/V Eva Jocelyn, one of 17 cargo ships that was washed ashore by the storm surge during typhoon Yolanda from the waters of the Port of Tacloban City to a side of a hill in Barangay 37 which was turned into a monument and a mini-park; and the Tzu Chi Great Love Village in Palo, a Taiwanese Buddhist foundation which provides livelihood and shelter for the victims of the typhoon.

“Apart from promoting the country’s wonderful tourist spots, we, at TPB, are also committed to help communities and preserve the environment. We hope that in our humble efforts, we not only protect our natural wonders, but more importantly, uplift the spirits of our fellow Filipinos,” says TPB Chief Operating Officer (COO) Domingo Ramon Enerio III.

TPB’s visit to Leyte is the 2nd leg of its CSR program this year, which started inOccidental Mindorand will conclude in Palawan. They also had similar activities in Boracay, Bohol and Camiguin last year. By setting an example, TPB’s charitable works hope to inspire not just its employees, but also other agencies and the general public to help the country in restoring its beauty and making the Philippines more fun.

Catch Single/Single explosive season finale

It has been a roller coaster ride for our favourite weekend barkada in Single/Single season 2. There were heartbreaks, anger, regret and disappointment but there was also laughter, kilig and excitement all throughout the entire show. Indeed, Single/Single has created relatable scenarios of life, love and friendship which perfectly depict the everyday struggle of a millennial.

The season started in a heartbreaking moment with a death of a friend. Through this unfortunate event, the barkada came to grips with the reality that life can be short and it has also driven them to step up in order to achieve their dreams.

We saw Joey’s transformation from being a carefree young musician to a hard-working businessman, managing his own bar, Bistro Biajo. Joee, on the other hand, tried to strike a balance between love and career, which, unfortunately, did not work out. The ever-busy Ranee was the one blessed with both a blooming lovelife and a flourishing career, but not after a splitting up and making up with her prince charming Randy, who chose her over his career in Canada. Meanwhile, Benny matures and has happily embraced singlehoodThis season also gave Tita Bianca a second chance in love and marriage. And at the end, all of our worries were put to rest when Joey and Joee finally admitted that they have feelings for each other.

It was indeed a whirlwind of a season, not only for the barkada but also for the viewers who shared the struggles and laughter of our millennial gang. But will it be a happy ending for each of our characters? Or will it be a cliff hanger series once again, paving way for another exciting season?

This Sunday, do not miss the season finale PhilStar TV and Cinema Ones’ breakthrough series, Single/Single season 2. The show will air at 10PM, with no commercial breaks, in Cinema One with replays every Wednesday, 8:30 PM and Saturdays, 9PM. Past episodes can also be viewed on philstartv.com. For more updates, visit facebook.com/SingleSingleC1 and @SingleSingleC1 on Twitter and Instagram.
