Beat the Heat by Avoiding These Summer Skincare Mistakes

This coming summer is looking to be a hot one, which means many of us will likely head to the beach to cool off. If you're not careful, however, you could get more than just sand, sea, and sun. Protect your skin against the sweltering heat this summer by being prepared and informed. Start by getting to know and avoiding these all too common summer skincare mistakes. Neglecting Proper Sunscreen Use Sunscreen should be an important part of your summer skincare routine, but many of us do away with it for various reasons. For some, it's expensive, it doesn't feel good on the skin, or it's not practical if you're not planning to stay under the sun for a long time. First off, not all sunblock lotions are expensive. These may be a bit pricier compared to ordinary lotions, but the purchase is worth it. Many sunscreens on the market are also formulated for quick skin absorption, which does away with the sticky residual feeling. Dermplus sunblocks, for example, provide excellent skin protection from the sun, features a quick absorb formula, and comes in different variants and sizes depending on your need and skin type. One important thing many people don't know is that you can get sunburn even when indoors. UV light can penetrate through glass windows, which means even if you are at home or in the office and you happen to be next to a window, you still are exposed. Make it a habit to use Dermplus to all exposed areas of the body every day, especially this summer. Ignoring Dead Skin Cells The sun and sand may feel good on your feet, but these can damage the skin. Be sure to exfoliate your skin before hitting the beach. Removing the dead skin cells allow for the growth of new, healthy cells, which makes the skin smoother and feeling softer. Exfoliation also allows the sunblock and other skincare products to be more effective, as it can go deeper into the skin. Relying on Clothes Alone for Sun Protection Our summer outfits are often light, airy, and colorful. This, however, could mean your skin (even the non-exposed parts) does not get enough protection. The sando, the sun dress, or that light summery polo shirt provide very little protection against the sun. For this, it's best to sunscreen it up all over, and maybe even getting clothes with built-in sun protection. Getting Dehydrated Dehydration not only causes headaches and extreme thirst, it also causes the skin to dry out. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water or non-sugary, non-caffeinated beverages. This balances the body and skin's moisture levels. Ignoring that Sunburn If you really can't stay away from the heat and the sun for a long time, be sure to soothe the skin as soon as possible. The Dermplus Aftersun Hydrating Body Gel is very effective in soothing the skin, reducing inflammation and redness, and preventing peeling. The sooner you deal with the sun damage on the skin, the better. Make this summer fun and safe not just for the family or the barkada, but for your skin as well.

CDC Holdings Completes Manila Rivercity Residences

CDC Holdings, Inc., one of the leading real estate developers in the country, recently completed the construction and turnover of units for its newest project – the Manila Rivercity Residences in Sta. Ana, Manila.
With all the property’s nine towers now completed, the company has fulfilled its commitment to help more families realize their dream of living in their own homes. Through the Manila Rivercity Residences, nestled along the historic and scenic Pasig River, CDC Holdings has once again built one of the most exciting and dynamic communities in the area.
“From an old, dilapidated warehouse, CDC Holdings transformed this site into one of the most attractive real estate investment you can find at this location, at this price and at this quality,” shared Elsie Chua, the company’s president and CEO. “The vision that I have of providing value for money homes at convenient location is a reality with Manila Rivercity Residences.”
The event was also highlighted with the turnover of the keys to homeowners signaling the community’s involvement in ensuring that the quality will be properly managed and maintained. “The challenge now is how to preserve and even enhance the units and amenities that have been turned over to the residents. CDC built the buildings, but it is up to each and every one of the homeowners to create a sense of community,” she added.
Offering a relaxing retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle, the property is comprised of nine medium-rise buildings, named after the world’s most famous rivers: Nile, Dnieper, Blue Danube, Colorado, Euphrates, Rhine, Amazon, Kumagawa and Yangtze. Amid the urban chaos, the Manila Rivercity Residences serves as a sanctuary for families through its spacious studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units.
Chua says the success of this latest project validates CDC Holdings’ formula of providing quality homes at affordable prices at convenient location. Manila Rivercity Residences is ideally accessible, making a comfortable commute to or from the neighboring districts of Manila, Makati City or Mandaluyong City. What’s more, various commercial establishments, renowned schools and reputable medical facilities are within easy reach from CDC’s riverside condominium community.
Inside the gated community of Manila Rivercity Residences, residents will feel like they have been transported to a different world – one that spells relaxation and tranquility. Families can bond together and enjoy the property’s host of recreational facilities.
Residents can spend some rest and recreation time at the landscaped boardwalk facing the Pasig River. Built with viewing decks that are made of eco-friendly material, gazebos and play areas, it is the perfect spot to unwind during the weekends. Families can also host barbeque and pool parties, as the Manila Rivercity Residences offers a well-appointed pool area with two fountains and falls, as well as barbeque pits. Residents can also wander freely and safely even in the evenings, as CDC is in the process of putting LED lights on common areas.
For CDC Holdings, its dedication to make its residents feel at home in every community that it builds is an ongoing commitment. As a result, the company is in the process of adding more features in the Manila Rivercity Residences, such as the installation of CCTV in the roof deck, elevators and main lobbies of all buildings, as well as the future implementation of garbage segregation. CDC Holdings will also launch soon the Kids Club, wherein resident kids can register to receive exclusive perks during their birthdays, participate in monthly activities such as Summer Carnival and craft sessions, and claim other exciting giveaways.
Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry - current president Mr Angel Ngu, past honorary president Mr Tan Ching and vice president Dr. Cecilio Pedro. Also present were Manila City Hall's Engr. Roberto Bernardo and Engr. Roger Legaspi and the president of SEC Elevators, Mr Suzuki Takao, President of SEC Elevators, ECD, CDC, Engr. Roberto Bernardo, Manila City Engineer, Engr. Roger Legaspi, Manila City Building Official and Mr David Chua
Representatives from each of the towers receiving keys to homeowners, which signals the community’s involvement in ensuring the community will be properly managed and maintained
Among the residents who feel at home with CDC Holding’s property is 30-year old Kathleen Cruz, a branch head of a large retail store. Cruz, with her husband and four-year old daughter, are among the first occupants of the Manila Rivercity Residences when they bought a one-bedroom unit in the project’s Nile Tower. After making it their happy home for five years, they decided to purchase another unit in the same community – this time a two-bedroom in Yangtze Tower.
Accessibility and value for money were their main consideration for making Manila Rivercity Residences their home, according to Cruz. “We have seen a lot of developments in our line of work, and we can say that what CDC offered us is very competitive in terms of price,” Cruz says. What Cruz loves most about living in the Manila Rivercity Residences is the feeling of haven it gives to her family. “After a hard day at work, you just want to come home to a place that will be like your sanctuary, a place that will make you really feel at home,” Cruz shares. “It really feels like a community, and CDC is taking efforts to make us feel at home, even down to the little details.”
Just like the Cruz family, the Manila Rivercity Residences offers homeowners a smart way of living, with its excellent location, move-in ready units, and superb features and amenities. Alaska Milk Sports Action in Davao 2016

What I like most about this sports fest by Alaska Milk is that they encourage kids to be their best. At sa dami ng child-related crimes sa ating bansa, we need more of these kind of invigoration and support sa tinagurian ni Gat Jose Rizal na "Pag-asa ng Ating Bayan".

Aside from Alaska Milk's vision for Filipino children to have proper nutrition, sports fest like these give Filipino children hope in life - na kahit maralita, basta may talent and determination, pwede ka dito. In here, you have a chance. Sa dami ng apps na pwedeng laruin ngayon indoors, sa dami ng channels ng cable TV at dahil unlimited na rin ang internet sa bahay, as a mom, I appreciate Alaska Milk's initiative to uplift children to "go out and play".
It's nice to know that these sports fest are of free-of-charge, and it's also nice to know that there are volunteer coaches like Coach Kid of Cotabato City.

As part of Alaska Milk Jr.NBA and jr. WNBA 2016, last 27th and 28th of February, Regional Selection Camp for Mindanao leg was held at the Matina Campus of Ateneo de Davao University. This is the fourth of stage where young athletes, kids with potentials, children with dreams were gathered to showcase their skills and talents. Yes, Alaska Milk is taking it to the next level: The Search for the Next MVP in Basketball Nationwide! Para sa Filipino kids around the country, this is a good opportunity- a friendly competition to challenge and test to their skills while making friends and camaraderie, sportsmanship at the same time.

Kids are uplifted, but not just them...

Of course even moms are happy to see their kids having fun while learning and honing their skills. Win or lose, this competition is a good experience for them. It's a good start for budding young athletes, to make them love what they do and be good on what they are doing. It inspires children to pursue their dreams and continue in making their potential a skill that could give them ticket to a better life.

From Davao's Regional Selection Camp were seven boys and four girls, finally selected from the sea of 543 kids who participated in this year for Mindanao.

Alfonso Luis Candari, 13, of Ateneo de Davao; Lance Centeno, 13, of Ateneo de Davao; Joven Neil Deligero, 13, of Daniel R. Aguinaldo National Highschool; Louis Andre Joring, 13, of St. Mary’s School; Tryon Limar Langala, 14, of St. Mary’s School; Anscar Mamac, 14, of Holy Child College of Davao; and Rysan Villasenta, 13, of Holy Child College of Davao topped the boys division. Rozie Amatong, 11, of Modern International Learning Center; Aloha Marie Betanio, 12, of Malaybalay City Central School; Kate Buenaventura, 13, of Ateneo de Davao; and Marcila Grace Dellosa, 14, of F. Bangoy National Highschool topped the girls division.

The selected young athletes will represent Mindanao in the Jr. NBA/WNBA Philippines National Training Camp this April, and will try out with other top players from the four Regional Selection Camps for the chance to be named as Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines All-Star! What a mouthful! This and a chance to participate in an overseas NBA experience! Bongga!

Aside from the proper nutrition for strong bones and growing body, hence giving children their complete potential growth, Alaska through this kinds of program also aims to give children an active lifestyle while sharing the values of true Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Positive Attitude and Respect throughout the tournament.

Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines Regional Selection Camp will stop over Cebu this coming March 5-6, followed by Manila on April 9-10. So if you have kids, boys or girls aged 10-14, don't miss out! Register for free to the youth basketball program at www.jrnba.asia/philippines!
