IMG_0112
Clara Lee, Korean Hollywood Actress, Oracle Clinic Ambassador
The Philippine beauty industry has been growing at a phenomenal rate, and is expected to grow 6.1% to P139.8 billion in 2016. Increased demand has been driving the growth, as Filipinos become ever-more discerning consumers of beauty and cosmetic products and services. The Korean invasion of beauty products has been a big factor in the industry’s expansion, but its world-renowned cosmetic technology has yet to reach Philippine shores – until now.
Oracle Clinic, the largest networked dermatology, plastic surgery, and obesity clinic in South Korea, opens its doors to Filipinos with its first franchise in the Philippines - the Oracle Beauty Clinic. Its goal: enhancing Philippine beauty through Korean technology and expertise. Its services include top-of-the-line, non-invasive procedures such as skin lightening, tightening, resurfacing, and rejuvenation; anti-aging; hair growth; laser hair removal; signature facials; and body contouring. Plans are also underway for surgical procedures to be offered as part of its roster. In addition, the proprietary line of Dr. Oracle products will soon be made available at the clinic, allowing clients to continue their skincare regimen at home.
Founded by renowned Korean dermatologist, Dr. Ro Young Woo, Oracle Clinic has branches in Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, and China and recently, Hong Kong, and won the Korea Industry Grand Prize in 2011 for its top-class Korean technology, training, and experience. Its first Philippine branch is staffed by doctors and registered nurses who not only have extensive experience in beauty, dermatology, and plastic surgery, but were also trained in South Korea to know first-hand the secret behind the success of Oracle Beauty Clinic.
Says Susan Dimacali, one of the partners of the Oracle Beauty Clinic franchise in the Philippines, “From Koreanovelas to Seoul food to KPop, South Korea is particularly close to my heart. I have always been amazed at their dominance in the beauty industry, driven as it is by innovation, technology, and a true understanding of beauty. Opening the doors of Oracle Beauty Clinic to Filipinos is exciting, because now we are able to take our love for all things Korean one step further – by using their state-of-the-art technology to enhance our innate Philippine beauty. We welcome everyone to experience and see first-hand what truly world-class dermatological services are like.”
Clara Lee
Adding to the excitement of the country’s first South Korean dermatological franchise is the face of Oracle Beauty Clinic, Clara Lee. The South Korean actress, singer, dancer, host, and model rose to fame with Gwiyomi Song 2 and the Koreanovela Emergency Couple. Lee, who has music videos, television shows, and movies to her name, is thrilled to be part of the Korean beauty phenomenon in the Philippines. She states, “As a Korean, I am very much aware of our impact on beauty and culture, especially with the popularity of KPop and Koreanovelas. It warms my heart to know that we have fans in the Philippines who support us. This is why it is a privilege to be a sort of ambassador for my country and be an international face in a local market. I am honored to be part of the Oracle Beauty Clinic family and I invite all Filipinos and Koreans in the Philippines to visit the first branch in Manila.”

Social Constructs by Paincake Patrol

Paincake Patrol (2)
Sharing the belief that a life worth living is defined by a purpose of your own manufacture and not by social consensus, one-man electronic music project Paincake Patrol launches his first-ever EP //Social Constructs on December 5, 2015 at Today x Future in Cubao, Quezon City.
Paincake Patrol (1)
Created in 2011 out of passion for music, Paincake Patrol is the recording project of musician Eeman Bulotano. This experimental solo project is focused on creating alternative electronic and ambient music, reflecting the artist’s experiences and views on existence in general.
“[I want to] make music people can listen to without [them] having to ignore the person standing next to them,” says Eeman whose goal is to provide music that “makes you think, but yet somehow not [distract you] at all.”
Emotions, Experiences and Expression
The idea behind //Social Constructs and Paincake Patrol itself is inspired and widely influenced by the very existence of ambient music as pioneered by Brian Leno during the 1980’s. Usually electronic and instrumental in nature, ambient music aims to create a perfect balance between disappearance and presence.
Though it has existed for a long time now, ambient music remains relatively unknown to the mainstream crowd as it is seen as "too smart" or "overly deep.” However, Eeman and many other ambient music artists see this type of music as simpler and more relatable compared to any other genre because it provides the chance to be freely interpreted by its listeners. This genre is powered by the experiences and emotions not just by the one who created the music but also by those whom the music is created for.
Songs from this genre evolve from the mere self-expression of one artist into many different stories weaved by those present in the audience. They are taken and understood in more ways than one – similar to how individuals give meaning to various things and, ultimately, to life.
Existence Defined and Redefined
Music relives one’s memories, and the entire Paincake Patrol project intends to elicit nostalgia while stimulating thought-provoking conversations. With this particular EP, the artist focused on his view of the general meaning of existence and how empty it may seem when viewed only in an objective and logical way.
Each composition is appropriately titled based heavily on how the artist views reality. Combining master beats with ethereal notes, //Social Constructs’ first three tracks aim to reflect the existential angst and loneliness one might experience when he or she has failed to see reason behind life.

(Ee)Man behind the Music
Fascinated with weird ambient and dreamy sounds, Eeman has been recording his own music and releasing it on Sound Cloud starting 2010. He has released three LPs from 2011 to 2014. Since then, he has been featured in a few publications, such as Indienationblog and Exposed Vocals. In the Philippine Indie Rock Awards 2015, he was awarded Keyboardist of the Year through his current band, Audio Drive Thru.
Hetook the next step early this year by doing live gigs all over the metro. Six short months and several introductions to numerous people later, he is now ready to share his music more widely to the world.

All About Gardenia and Gardenia's Next Big Sandwich Hit!

Our favorite bread, Gardenia is made in the country’s most modern bread manufacturing plant, using the most technologically advanced equipment and a world-class, fully automated baking process. I have been more than once in their factory for an educational tour and indeed, Gardenia breads are produced in a hygienic and pest-free environment.
When I was in college, my school backpack won't be complete without my t-square, a bottle of water and my favorite Gardenia Chocolate Cream Roll. Gardenia uses the finest ingredients for their breads from all over the world, that's why my mom taught me to reach out for it every single time we do our grocery.
Facts about Gardenia:
  • Gardenia has a distinct taste, softness, aroma, freshness and nutritive value no other bread has claimed.
  • Premium flour from US Wheat especially milled to Gardenia’s high quality standards. Its Milk come from the US, Australia and New Zealand.
  • Gardenia’s Classic White Bread is so tasty you can eat it on its own.
  • It is so soft that a slice could be rolled without breaking. It also stays soft and springy longer than ordinary loaves, giving buyers more value for their money.
  • Gardenia Classic White Bread also has a fresh, natural, oven-baked aroma wafting out of each loaf.
  • Gardenia imposes a strict freshness policy which ensures that only fresh breads reach consumers every day. All unsold breads are replaced with only freshly baked top-quality products to ensure that what consumers get on the shelf daily are always fresh.
  • Gardenia uses color coded G-locks to indicate their expiry The G-lock contains all of the vital information that the consumers might need. It even contains information on which production line the bread was produced and the batch number. The G-lock color coding is part of Gardenia’s quality control system. To prevent confusion, 1 color per-day is assigned, meaning there are 7 G-lock colors assigned for the 7 days of the week. The day always matches the color.
  • Gardenia products are also fortified with vitamins and minerals. Aside from being cholesterol- and bromate-free, each loaf of Gardenia’s Classic White Bread has zero-trans fat to ensure a healthy heart. It also contains vitamins and minerals like Calcium to help build strong bones and teeth, Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) to help prevent fatigue, Vitamin C to help build the immune system, Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) and Vitamin B3 (Niacin) to help boost energy metabolism and Iron to help maintain a healthy blood. It also is fortified with Vitamin A to promote good vision and youthful skin and Iodine to aid in physical and mental development. It’s also fortified with folate that helps prevent anemia during pregnancy, and is critical to the normal growth and development of the fetus. Folic acid reduces neural birth defects and protects fetus against the development of heart defects.
Aside from producing heart-warming bread for the family, Gardenia created an inter-school business idea in a friendly-competition called: Gardenia's The Next Big Sandwich Hit 2015!

“My skin is definitely not the same as it was 20, 10 and five years ago,” Benipayo added. “But I've always believed that proper diet, the right kind of exercise, lifestyle and outlook in life are big contributors to feeling and looking young. At 47, I almost never get too exposed to the sun, I sleep and rest as much as I can and reserve it for only the most important things like family and work. I don't take in alcohol and stay away from negative stresses. I've also been more picky with the products I use on my face.”
Based on her experience with the product, Benipayo said: “I think Up&Up Cream will give its competitors a run for their money. It’s an effective product, very suitable for Asian skin, and has absolutely no downtime at all. I can use it any time of the day—in the morning, evening, before I put on makeup. It’s an instant vitamin treatment for the face.”
Benipayo dispenses some sage advice, too. “Accept your age and take the best care of yourself that you can by following the basic needs of the skin and body: Proper skincare, diet and exercise.”
“I always knew that maintaining a level of beauty and confidence entails a lot of work and love for self,” she said. “Now that I have these Up&Up boosters, I know that my skincare regimen will be easier to maintain. I do not have to use other products like eye creams, skin-lifting serums and moisturizers: Up&Up can replace all of them now.”

Healthway Medical: Filipinos who sit more than 6 hours every day at risk of acquiring chronic diseases

Filipinos who sit more than 6 hours every day at risk of acquiring chronic diseases Studies have shown that up to 70 percent of people spend their working hours sitting more than six hours per day, unknowingly putting themselves at risk for developing chronic non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and hypertension. But lack of physical activity is not only occurring in the working population. According to Dr. Paul Quilino, Medical Affairs manager at Healthway Medical and wellness advocate, healthy sports and recreational activities are becoming less of the norm in our society regardless of gender and age. It is widely accepted that physical activity plays a critical role in keeping one’s health and wellness in prime condition. In fact, Quilino stressed that an active lifestyle “promotes proper growth and development of the bones and muscles, helps burn stored energy, keeps cardiovascular system in tiptop condition, and helps improve overall physical endurance and agility.” “This makes the shift to a more active lifestyle all the more important,” Quilino said. “Exercise and physical activity are probably two of the most cost-effective and significant factors that one can engage in, to help lessen the risk of developing chronic diseases. With this, Filipinos, regardless of their age, should keep a close watch on their sleep, diet, and exercise to meet in order to stay healthy.” To ensure that Filipinos achieve the most desirable lifestyle, Healthway Medical—the most trusted and preferred mall-based clinics in the Philippines—promotes its Sleep, Eat Right, Exercise, and De-stress (S.E.E.D.) program to underpin the importance of an active and preventive healthcare especially to the working group. According to Carmie de Leon, vice president for sales and marketing of Healthway Medical, exercise is always lauded as an effective tool in preventing all kinds of diseases. However, being active is not the sole factor that plays part in curbing a sedentary lifestyle. De Leon said, “People who work eight hours or more daily have the responsibility take care of themselves in any way possible. Just like Dr. Quilino noted, taking the initiative to walk at least 20 minutes a couple of times within the week may help your body adapt to different physical activities. Eventually, you can slowly progress to brisk walking, then jogging, then running in greater lengths and frequency.” When Filipinos adopt this routine, they may challenge themselves to add distance or intensify the workout until they finally get rid of such sedentary lifestyles, Quilino added. Aside from moving a step closer to health and wellness, he said “the main goal in any ideal diet is to maximize intake of essential nutrients which are often found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, and lessen intake of those which are known to increase our risk for chronic non-communicable disease.” “Practically, the only way one will be able to follow such recommendations is by adapting and tailor-fitting these in their own socio-cultural preferences, as well as medical and physical needs,” Quilino added. To further nurture one’s physicality, Quilino highlighted the importance of quality sleep in ensuring work productivity. “In all ages, sleep induces secretion of certain chemicals in the brain, which in turn signals to the whole body to regenerate. And it’s not just the length of sleep we get butthe quality of sleep as well,” Quilino said. Quilino added, “Some studies point to the benefits of early sleep (within the first 4 hours of sleep), deep sleep on the 5th to 7th hour and near waking. What we want to point out here is that to function normally awake, we also have to care about the amount and quality of sleep we get.” Because of today’s generation’s affinity to digital gadgets, Quilino emphasized that these modern-day technologies play a greater role in affecting people in decreasing their time and interest in more physical recreational activities. Digital gadgets effectively decrease physical activity and also play a role in disrupting one’s sleep-awake cycle, reducing sleeping time, hence, a good way to achieve quality sleep is to “keep yourself from using your phone before you sleep.” “Most mobile games aim to instantly gratify their users, and in effect, feed (and increase) their appetite to even play more,” Quilino said. “The unwanted contrast against playing outdoors becomes more magnified and feeds into the vicious cycle. Light stimulation (not necessarily the radiation) during the sleep phase of our natural sleep-wake cycle signals the brain to stay alert, and therefore, stay awake. With this, Filipinos should opt to minimize their gadget use especially when they’re hitting the bunk.” De Leon, on the other hand, said that while sleeping, eating right, and exercising are important pillars in achieving wellness not only in terms of mental health but also physical and social well-being, it is also crucial to take a break once in a while to curb work-related stress.
“Work-related stress is the body’s common response when people are confronted with work demands that do not match their knowledge and abilities,” De Leon said. “Since it challenges their ability to cope, 75 percent of adults experience moderate to high levels of stress, which is quite alarming.” She added, “People who work hard to give their families a more comfortable life also need to have that comfort for themselves. With this, they need to take a break from their daily routines and do something that de-stresses them,” De Leon said.
